Long ago, when birds were created by the sky gods, all birds were created in the same part of the world. Parrots, Owls, Woodpeckers, Penguins, and others would roam the land together as one. The sky gods put the birds all together in hopes that they get along and cooperate with one another. For quite some time this would work.
The sky gods would send down food to the animals like plants, fish, and mice in hopes of all the birds being happy. And they were happy; except for Penguin.
Penguin saw all of the other birds enjoying their plants, fish, and mice; but he wanted more. He yelled and screamed at the sky gods for not giving him what he wanted.
“How come everyone gets what they want but I do not?” Penguin would often ask the sky gods. But the gods above continued to send down fish for Penguin.
“But Penguin, the gods are giving us a plentiful supply of fish! They are giving you everything you asked for and everything you need!” Crane explained. But this still wasn't enough for Penguin.
In hopes of making Penguin happier, the sky gods sent Penguin to a new land with the most fish all for himself. The sky gods sent Penguin to Antarctica where he could eat all of the fish without other birds taking them from him. But still, this wasn't enough for Penguin.
When Penguin arrived in Antarctica, he was disappointed. He saw no trees and nothing green. His new home was filled with a plain brown land and water. He was instantly mad at what the sky gods had done to him, so he flew as high as he could until he had reached the floor of the sky world. He pecked like he saw his friend woodpecker do once, and he pecked as hard as he could until he created a hole. Through the hole, a sky god fell through and landed in the water. This was the god of weathers son.
“Why have you pulled me through to Earth?” exclaimed the god to the Penguin who did not try to catch him as he fell.
“I am mad about where I am living. I am mad about my food. I deserve more than this,” the Penguin told the sky god as he kicked the sky god in the foot.
“But Penguin, we have given you everything you need! We have given you an endless supply of food, and a new...” the sky god began to fall down to the floor as Penguin kicked him. He fell more and more, and disintegrated into the ground, making all of the lands turn to ice and cold.
Penguin suddenly became freezing cold and tried to pick the sky god up. He had disrespected a god and he did not know what to do. He shoveled up the now ice and snow off the ground in hopes of looking for the son of the weather god, but he was gone.
As the sky gods watched the son of the god die, the weather god got very angry.
“You need to do something to that penguin so he can never hurt any god ever again,” the weather god told the animal god.
“I don't think I can do anything,” the animal god explained. But he suddenly thought of one thing he could do to teach Penguin a lesson.
Down below, once it was freezing cold, and the son of the weather god was gone, Penguin knew he had to do something. He decided to apologize to the sky gods for being so ungrateful for what he was given. So he flew up to the sky gods in hopes of their forgiveness. But, he tried and failed. He could not fly. He tried again and again in hopes of departure, but he could not launch himself off the ground.
